A Rustic and Elegant Vermont Wedding

Dave and Amy’s wedding took place on a bright and sparkling afternoon in Smugglers Notch, Vermont at The Barn at Boyden Farm. The historic venue overlooks an expansive meadow at the foot of Smugglers Notch, nestled in Vermont’s Green Mountains. When the guests arrived, there was chilled lemonade and cucumber water ready to keep them quenched and refreshed. The guests mingled, played lawn games, and took in the vista of expansive fields followed by rolling hills as they waited for the ceremony to begin.

The groomsmen wore gray suites with blue ties, while the bridesmaids had on coordinated flowing peach dresses, each a slightly different design. The bride wore a long veil that swept behind her as she walked. The ceremony borrowed from Jewish and Chinese traditions: the couple was married under a Chuppah adorned in pink flowers, and one of the bridesmaids read aloud a poem in mandarin.

After the ceremony, the staff brought out cocktails flavored with blueberry (“Something Blue”) and grapefruit-rosemary (“Just Rose-Married”) to go with the appetizers of salmon ceviche and fresh mozzarella skewers. As the sun began to dip, the guests made their way into the barn for dinner. The walls of the barn were maintained as exposed wood, but chandeliers had been strung from the ceiling, complementing the polished wood tables and chairs. Each table was set in a style that was elegant and uncomplicated, with light pink floral arrangements provided by A Schoolhouse Garden. Strings of lights danced around the walls, creating a soft and inviting ambiance.

The dinner was served family-style, so everyone got to enjoy the fresh spinach salad with candied pecans, tender beef, and roasted salmon, catered by Farmhouse Group Events. Instead of one cake, the couple opted for an array of ten cakes with tiny slices cut into each, so guests could pick and choose which flavors to try. The creme brulee cake and raspberry chocolate mousse were favorites.

The dancing went late into the night, and the dance floor was hardly ever empty. While the guests were grooving to hits modern and classic by DJ Nick Stryker of 802Events, they took turns leaving well wishes for the bride and groom at the nearby SpeechBooth. Some left heartfelt advice that they planned in advance while others, swept away by the energy of the moment, sang and danced their messages. All too soon, the event was over and the buses came to whisk the guests back to their accommodations. It was a beautiful and fun ceremony. Congratulations, Dave and Amy!
